by Peter Fellows:
"Your painting is in our entrance hall, at the end of a corridor, with natural light shining on it. It has turned a dull corridor-end into an interesting and eye catching wall space. We love it." 2009
by Bill Flind:
“We purchased several paintings from Rob on the general theme of street views, and we’ve hung them in our presentation room, meeting rooms & reception area. We frequently get positive comments from clients & other visitors, and the pictures have given our office an interesting and edgy feel. Even though we’ve owned them now for a couple of years, we’re still delighted with them. Bill Flind, BIW Technologies Ltd” 2009
by Richard Ormond:
It takes some courage for an art student nowadays to go representational. More so to paint portraits, an activity which is often derided as old-fashioned. Robert Cordingley is unabashed and follows his instincts. His pictures may belong to a naturalistic tradition, but they are infused with the spirit of today. Robert interprets form through bold blocks of colour, and a conscious sense of pattern and design. Light flows through his work, and he can work the scale of relative values to bring us a convincing image of reality. A reality conditioned by his own style and preoccupations: light reflected from the windows of contemporary buildings; a powerfully modelled head looming out of the darkness; mysterious still-lives of ceramic animals; a distant view of snow-capped mountains. If he can keep up the momentum, he should go far, for his painting is direct and immediate.

by Catharine Slade-Brooking:
It is always tremendously refreshing to come across an artist who has the courage to go against current trends and fashions, to remain true to personal ideals and therefore speak with their own voice, Robert Cordingley is one of these unique people.
Working in styles and mediums that places him within the traditions of the British Masters from the Colourists to the scientific precision of natural history illustration, Robert demonstrates a clear understanding of the traditions that influence his work, both through his style and use of traditional media including oils and watercolour.
Highly observed and detailed he works not as a photorealist but allows each image to expresses a greater narrative and emotion. Reviewing a body of his work reveals the evolution of his technique and style, from its tentative beginnings to his most recent work demonstrating unique personal qualities.
